AdFarmers get #AgSmart

Agriculture is undergoing unprecedented change with the rise of new technologies, smarter employment of data, and the pursuit of increasingly sustainable production practices. As communications professionals who are dedicated to being catalysts for the evolution of agriculture, AdFarmers stay connected to trends by getting out into the field through an educational program called Farm Daze.

“Farm Daze was started in the 1990s as part of our commitment to keep our finger on the pulse of this dynamic industry,” says Colleen Robert, AdFarm HR Lead. “Nothing beats hands-on experience with farmers and innovators who are so passionate about what they do. Our entire team – from admin to creative and everything in between – goes out together to experience, feel, and connect with agriculture.”

AdFarmers joined hundreds of growers who could sneak away from their fields Aug. 13-14 to attend AgSmart in Olds, Alberta, to learn how to apply emerging technologies in their day to day operations. From autonomous applicators that make crop production more efficient and environmentally sustainable, to high-altitude drones that can track the welfare of livestock across hundreds of acres, the event was focused on making cutting-edge advancements real and relatable on the farm.

A partnership between Olds College and Agri-Trade, the inaugural AgSmart event provided an opportunity for growers and the service providers who support them to interact via education workshops, in-field demonstrations and an exhibit fair profiling some of the latest commercialized products that are transforming agriculture locally and around the world.

“AgSmart provides interactive in-field demonstrations and informative education sessions to help producers better understand and use technology and data throughout their operations,” says Stuart Cullum, President, Olds College. “And it builds on Olds College’s vision to be a leader in Smart Ag by transforming our college farm into the demonstration farm of the 21st century.”
