Kim McConnell Named To Order Of Canada
Canadian agriculture leader and a founder of AdFarm recipient of prestigious appointment
Calgary, – Kim McConnell C.M., a founder of the agricultural communications firm AdFarm, has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his leadership in promoting Canada’s agricultural industry and his extensive engagement in causes supporting youth, entrepreneurship and rural communities. Created in 1967, the Order of Canada is one of the highest civilian honours, recognizing outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Raised on a farm in Hamiota, Manitoba, McConnell started his communications and marketing business in the basement of his house in 1984 – eventually growing it to be one of the most awarded agricultural marketing communications firms in North America. In addition to leading numerous national and international brand and marketing assignments for several respected companies, McConnell has been a catalyst in leading industry initiatives including advancing the Canadian beef industry, developing strategic marketing plans for global commodity players, and spearheading recent efforts to build greater public trust in food and farming.
“Kim’s passion for agriculture, rural youth development and the entrepreneurial spirit has been integral to the success of AdFarm and the many clients we have served and continue to serve,” says AdFarm President Ben Graham. “Kim’s efforts in bridging the gap between producers and consumers have had an immeasurable impact in pushing the industry to achieve new levels of success, and all of us at AdFarm continue to aim higher thanks to his example.”
“Kim is a tireless advocate for the agricultural industry, always ready to lend a hand to help advance the position of farmers and rural communities,” adds Roger Reierson, chairman of the AdFarm Board of Directors. “He has made himself available as a mentor for agri-business leaders throughout his career, earning their respect and admiration for providing guidance through countless communications challenges and opportunities. We are all incredibly proud to have him as one of our leaders.”
McConnell is also the recipient of many national business awards including ‘Agri-Marketer of the Year’, finalist for the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year”, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation “Mentor of the Year” and in 2012 he received one of the industry’s highest awards when he was inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame.
“I am beyond humbled by this appointment and also extremely proud to be appointed on behalf of my affiliation with Canada’s vibrant and dynamic agricultural industry,” says McConnell. “I have personally and professionally gained so much through my work with leaders in farming, food and rural development, I can only hope to continue to serve the people and organizations for whom I have the utmost respect.”
Today McConnell is a director on a number of company boards and volunteer boards, including Genome Canada, the Canadian 4-H Council, the Calgary Stampede Foundation, and the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity. He and his family live on an acreage just outside of Calgary.
McConnell is one of 77 notable Canadians named June 30, 2017 as Members of the Order of Canada. More information can be found here: https://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=16917&lan=eng
